Meet the Arachne Digital Team: Jenine Carron
Leading up to our participation in Hacktoberfest, We’re starting a series to introduce the diverse talent contributing to the Arachne Digital team. Learn more about our cyber threat intel open-source work and the folks that make it run.
For our first part, meet our Co-Founder and Technical Lead, Jenine Carron.
Hello! What are your name and pronouns?
Hey! I’m Jen (or Jenine); pronouns are she/her.
What’s your role with Arachne Digital?
I work on all things tech! I take the designs and requirements for Arachne’s work and build them. I’m also ensuring previously-built work is supported.
What inspired you to work with open-source?
The transparency of it all! If I’m interested in a new piece of tech or a project, I find it so exciting that I can get involved — open-source means I am able to contribute to such projects. Furthermore, if there’s a project I’m intrigued by, it being open-source means I can pop-under-the-hood and learn about how it works.
What about in threat intelligence and cyber security?
I chose cyber-security modules when given the option to do so whilst studying at university — I liked learning about the threatening nature of technology whilst also the evolution of it all to give us standards and practices that protect us from threats today. I found it fun to learn how to build something for a user or purpose. I found it fun and intriguing to learn about how Alice and Bob’s business-as-usual tech tasks could be thwarted.
Threat intelligence was not something I was aware of until working with Arachne’s co-founder Kade Morton. He introduced me to the MITRE ATT&CK® framework and what would become our first open-source repository (Arachne’s Thread). With a nature of wanting to help others, threat intelligence combined that want with my interest in cyber-security — aiding others with the intelligence on how to protect their technical landscape.
In addition to your work with Arachne, what else are you passionate about?
My geeky self wants to tell you I like video games — for two years running, the Arachne virtual Christmas party was a group playthrough of Journey. Also, I like cats. I don’t have any myself, but I currently volunteer at an adoption center.
What’s the best way for people to connect with you?
